Everything and nothing are as they seem....
The Phantom of the Opera did exist. He was not, as many insisted, a figment of a crazed mind. He did live, and die, in the 1800s. His story did not, however, end where everyone insists it did.
Having escaped the vengeful mob and in mourning over losing his home, his music, and the love of his life, Erik has little left to care about. But there are those around him that are determined to see him find some little happiness in the world.
One of these rescued him from a sorry state in the catacombs of the Opera House where he had taken to hiding since the mobs ravaged his home. Deciding that Erik would never recover if they stayed in France, this determined individual dragged Erik on a long quest to find some happiness. Five long years have passed.
And then--devastation. The papers all across Europe spoke of the death of the Vicomtess de Chagny. A tragic life, haunted by the events of the past, cut short. No details were given of her death; the only statement any paper was given--a sudden illness that had taken a turn for the worst and taken her from her husband long before her time.
Reading this, Erik retreated to his room in the backwoods inn they were staying in over in Germany and refused to come out. Eventually gathering the strength to visit her grave, he returned the wedding ring she had left behind with him 5 years before, then determined that he too would die.
But he underestimated his friend, who once again dragged him out into the world. Returning to Germany, where they had been planning to visit another Opera House, Erik's companion now struggles to lure his friend out of his room, where Erik has taken to retreating again, high on morphine and drunk on any hard spirits he can lay his hands on.
Just when things seem to settle, and Erik seems to relent and is willing to cooperate with his companion's plans.... A ghost.
Christine Daae de Chagny, dead and gone, has come to haunt him. He sees her face every time he dares to venture outside, and thinks himself mad.
What is the truth behind this disturbing development? Is she truly a ghost come to haunt Erik, or is there something more to the sightings?
Come and find out!
